Breakfast Week 2015: 25th – 31st January
EatSmart@Monkton is supporting this national campaign for the third consecutive year. We know, with our largely boarding community, how important Breakfast is at the start of the day. We also recognise that if we do not ‘ring the changes’ from time to time then we may lose the interest of our consumers.
This year we have used feedback from the Food Committee to guide our selections for Farmhouse Breakfast which we will be celebrating on Wednesday 28th January. The boys tend to favour a more traditional breakfast so we will be offering eggy bread, bacon, chipolatas and grilled tomatoes while the girls have preferred smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on a toasted bagel.
Everyone will be able to enjoy pancakes with maple syrup, an organic natural yoghurt bar with toppings and, of course, cereals, toast & spreads and a range of juices, tea and coffee will be available.
The Shake Up Your Wake Up campaign includes an annual Breakfast Week celebration championing the importance of breakfast which takes place every January.
Breakfast Week is managed by HGCA and run on behalf of arable farmers who grow crops such as wheat, barley, oats and oilseed rape. The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness of the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast and demonstrate the wealth of wonderful breakfast produce available around the country. We want to encourage people to think about where their breakfast foods come from and support the cereal farmers who produce it.
All stages of the food chain, from farmers to food producers and retailers to consumers are encouraged to get involved and hold events during the week to promote the importance of starting the day with breakfast.
